چکیده

When humans look at a complex and ambiguous figure, they divide it into several elemental figures. This human visual characteristic is called figure segiegation. There is a problem when constructing a cognitive model for figure segiegation. That is, one interpretation is selected by most people for some figures, and several interpretations are selected almost equally for other figures. This paper discusses the deciding selection frequency problem. First, a geometrical function is introduced for describing line figures. Next, several Gestalt features (such as symmetry, continuity, etc) are defined using the function. Then, by applying linear multiple regression analysis, the characteristic value of each interpretation is obtained, and the selection frequency is calculated. The results of a psychological experiment show that the model proposed here can simulate human visual perception in figure segregation fairly well.

Opposing Dorsal/Ventral Stream Dynamics during Figure-ground Segregation

The visual system has been commonly subdivided into two segregated visual processing streams: The dorsal pathway processes mainly spatial information, and the ventral pathway specializes in object perception. Recent findings, however, indicate that different forms of interaction (cross-talk) exist between the dorsal and the ventral stream. Here, we used TMS and concurrent EEG recordings to expl...

Segregation patterns of an equidensity TiO2 ternary mixture in a conical fluidized bed: CFD and experimental study

In this study, an Eulerian-Eulerian multi-fluid model (MFM) was used to simulate the segregation pattern of a conical fluidized bed containing ternary mixtures of equidensity TiO2‌ particles. Experimental 'freeze–sieving' method was employed to determine the axial mass fraction profiles of the different-sized particles, and validate the simulation results. The profiles of mass fraction for larg...

Segregation Behaviour of Particles in Gas Solid Fluidized Beds at Elevated Pressure

A comprehensive mathematical model based on the discrete particle model and computational fluid dynamics was utilized to investigate mixing and segregation of particles in fluidized beds at high pressure. To quantify the extent of mixing in the bed, the Lacey mixing index was used. Simulations were carried out with different mass fractions of small particles at various pressures ranging from 1 ...

Functional Brain Connectivity Differences Between Different ADHD Presentations: Impaired Functional Segregation in ADHD-Combined Presentation but not in ADHD-Inattentive Presentation

Introduction: Contrary to Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5), fifth edition, some studies indicate that ADHD-inattentive presentation (ADHD-I) is a distinct diagnostic disorder and not an ADHD presentation.  Methods: In this study, 12 ADHD-combined presentation (ADHD-C), 10 ADHD-I, and 13 controls were enrolled and their resting state EEG recorded. Following thi...

Neural dynamics of feedforward and feedback processing in figure-ground segregation

Determining whether a region belongs to the interior or exterior of a shape (figure-ground segregation) is a core competency of the primate brain, yet the underlying mechanisms are not well understood. Many models assume that figure-ground segregation occurs by assembling progressively more complex representations through feedforward connections, with feedback playing only a modulatory role. We...
